Another progress report from the Greenway last Thursday (9 Oct 2008). I walked onto Hackney Wick which was more interesting – and you can see more pictures from both on My London Diary.

Looks like the best of the Olympics may be in the artistic stimulus it seems to be injecting into the community.

  2. I’ve heard about it, and have met the photographer and seen some of his previous work, though a little while ago.

I started photographing the Lea Valley, including what is now the Olympic area 25 years ago (some on http://river-lea.co.uk/) and have continued to do so over the years, although much of what I photographed in that area has or will be destroyed – including Manor Gardens -http://re-photo.co.uk/?p=379

Yes there has been some activity prompted by the Olympics – such as the Roof Unit show http://re-photo.co.uk/?p=112 last year and its a bandwagon many have tried to jump on – and good luck to all – but I’d much rather have seen a slower development of the area which was aimed at its future improvement rather than a couple of weeks of people playing games. I also wrote a little about it after attending the artists’ symposium on the Olympics at [space] in Hackney last year: http://re-photo.co.uk/?p=39
