{"id":802,"date":"2009-10-22T13:36:28","date_gmt":"2009-10-22T13:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=802"},"modified":"2009-10-22T13:36:28","modified_gmt":"2009-10-22T13:36:28","slug":"prix-pictet-announced-later-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=802","title":{"rendered":"Prix Pictet announced later today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The winner of the Prix Pictet will be announced tonight, and you can see the work of the 12 selected finalists on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lensculture.com\/prix_pictet_2009.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Lensculture<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The twelve are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Darren Almond, UK<\/li>\n<li>         Christopher Anderson, Canada<\/li>\n<li>         Sammy Baloji, Congo<\/li>\n<li>         Edward Burtynsky, Canada<\/li>\n<li>         Andreas Gursky, Germany<\/li>\n<li>         Naoya Hatakeyama, Japan<\/li>\n<li>         Nadav Kander, South Africa<\/li>\n<li>         Ed Kashi, USA<\/li>\n<li>         Abbas Kowsari, Iran<\/li>\n<li>         Yao Lu, China<\/li>\n<li>         Edgar Martins, Portugal and<\/li>\n<li>       Chris Steele-Perkins, UK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;d find it very hard to pick a winner from these, although there are two or three photographers whose work I&#8217;m surprised made it to the last 12, and I don&#8217;t think are showing anything like there best work here. Of course in most cases I&#8217;ve only seen the work on the web, though there are a few pictures I&#8217;ve seen before elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>If I had to choose,\u00a0 I think it would be between <em>Naoya Hatakeyama<\/em> and <em>Ed Kashi<\/em>, so those are probably two without a chance if my record at predicting such things stands.<\/p>\n<p>As well as the \u00a360,000 prize to be announced by Kofi Annan, honorary president of the Prix Pictet,\u00a0 at the Passage de Retz Gallery in Paris today, there will also be a commission for one of the twelve photographers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The winner of the Prix Pictet will be announced tonight, and you can see the work of the 12 selected finalists on Lensculture.
