It&#8217;s one of the most charming publications I&#8217;ve seen for a while, and I was pleased I decided to support the Kickstarter campaign &#8211; one of the 157 backers who together pledged the <span class=\"money gbp no-code\">\u00a310,496<\/span> that made it possible.<\/p>\n<p>You can see 44 images from the <em>Indian Coffee House<\/em> project at <a href=\"http:\/\/The Indian Coffee House\" target=\"_blank\">Panos Pictures<\/a>, and there are also pictures on the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/in-pictures-34402498\" target=\"_blank\">BBC web site<\/a> <\/em>and elsewhere. I was fortunate to see the photographer talking about and showing this work around six months ago to a crowded meeting of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.photo-forum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Photo-forum<\/a> <\/em>in London, and it was also featured on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lensculture.com\/articles\/stuart-freedman-palaces-of-memory-indian-coffee-houses\" target=\"_blank\">Lensculture<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"post-title entry-title\">Google will now find you a long list of reviews, articles and interviews about the work, but I&#8217;ll pick out just a few: <em><a href=\"http:\/\/roadsandkingdoms.com\/2015\/coffee-history-qa-stuart-freedman\/\" target=\"_blank\">Roads and Kingdoms<\/a><\/em> has a nice interview with Freedman talking to their Director of Photography <em>Pauline Eiferman<\/em>; Slate&#8217;s Photo Blog <em>Behold<\/em> has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/behold\/2015\/09\/29\/stuart_freedman_s_book_the_palaces_of_memory_tales_from_the_indian_coffee.html\" target=\"_blank\">well-illustrated feature<\/a>, and of course Freedman has his own <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stuartfreedman.com\/content\/home.php\" target=\"_blank\">web site<\/a> including a blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stuartfreedman.com\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\">Umbra sumus &#8211; &#8216;we are but shadows&#8217;\u2026<\/a>, where his occasional posts are always worth reading.<\/p>\n<p>But perhaps the nicest article I&#8217;ve so far found is\u00a0 on\u00a0<em>The Delhi Walla<\/em>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedelhiwalla.com\/2015\/09\/12\/city-moment-people-of-the-book-indian-coffee-house\/\" target=\"_blank\">City Moment \u2013 People of the Book, Indian Coffee House<\/a> by<em> Mayank Austen Soofi <\/em>who took Freedman&#8217;s book\u00a0 to the Indian Coffee House in Connaught Place to the obvious delight of the workers whose pictures and those of their customers appear in it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve not yet got a copy of Stuart Freedman&#8216;s The Palaces of Memory, pictures from the Indian Coffee Houses, I suggest you do now.
