{"id":553,"date":"2009-02-07T10:43:48","date_gmt":"2009-02-07T10:43:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=553"},"modified":"2009-02-07T10:43:48","modified_gmt":"2009-02-07T10:43:48","slug":"new-york-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=553","title":{"rendered":"New York Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to <em>Mikko Takkunen<\/em> of <a href=\"http:\/\/photojournalismlinks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Photojournalism Links<\/a> for drawing attention to a nice series of stories on The New York Times, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/packages\/html\/nyregion\/1-in-8-million\/index.html?hp#\/georgiana_depalma_tedone\">One in 8 Million<\/a>, stories of New Yorkers (though treated rather differently from <em>Weegee<\/em>!). The latest, photographed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toddheisler.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Todd Heisler<\/a>, tells the story of <em>Georgiana DePalma Tedone<\/em>, a remarkable 90 year old who still gets up around 2.30am to make mozzarella for sale in her Brooklyn shop. Just a shame its such a long way for me to go to buy some (along with her Saturday roast beef, though you need to get there early to catch that.)<\/p>\n<p>And there are some other great links on the page, including another New York Times feature, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aphotoeditor.com\/2009\/02\/06\/paolo-pellegrins-great-performers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Great Performers<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.magnumphotos.com\/PaoloPellegrin\" target=\"_blank\">Paolo Pellegrin<\/a> of Magnum, behind the scense images of eight of the current biggest names in film, including Kate Winslet and Bradd Pitt. Its a set of pictures I first heard about on the often interesting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aphotoeditor.com\/author\/admin\/\" target=\"_blank\">APhotoEditor<\/a> site.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly I can&#8217;t say all 48 of the images in the slide show excite me greatly &#8211; many without star names attached would not rate a second glance, but there are perhaps a dozen or so outstanding images, not a bad average, and its all a very welcome change from the standard views, although some of the success of the work perhaps owes a lot to the post-processing by <em>Picturehouse<\/em> in NYC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to Mikko Takkunen of Photojournalism Links for drawing attention to a nice series of stories on The New York Times, One in 8 Million, stories of New Yorkers (though treated rather differently from Weegee!).
