{"id":531,"date":"2009-01-19T12:02:37","date_gmt":"2009-01-19T12:02:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=531"},"modified":"2009-01-19T12:02:37","modified_gmt":"2009-01-19T12:02:37","slug":"inez-baturo-polish-landscapes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=531","title":{"rendered":"Inez Baturo &#8211; Polish Landscapes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The current exhibition at the Paris-based on-line <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dmochowskigallery.net\/galeria.php\" target=\"_blank\">Dmochowski Gallery f<\/a>eatures the work of a good friend of mine from Bielsko-Biala, Poland, <em>Inez Baturo<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/buildingsoflondon.co.uk\/Library\/050609_0109cr.jpg\" title=\"\u00a9 2005 Peter Marshall\" alt=\"\u00a9 2005 Peter Marshall\" width=\"450\" height=\"543\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Inez Baturo<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A week or so ago I wrote something about the ugliness of snow on trees and now have to eat my words seeing the magic which this gives to some of Inez&#8217;s pictures. As gallery owner <em> Piotr Dmochowski<\/em> writes, these are &#8220;<span class=\"longText whiteBackground\" style=\"color: #666666\"><em>misty, wistful and pensive visions<\/em>&#8221; and have a powerful poetry, full of &#8220;<\/span><span class=\"longText whiteBackground\" style=\"color: #666666\"><em>nostalgia, memories and sad reflectio<\/em>n.&#8221;\u00a0 I think there is something deeply Polish in them &#8211; as Polish as the music of Chopin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But go and look at them on the web site &#8211; and there are some good large versions of the images on show. The pictures date from 1991 &#8211; 2008, with 2007 seeming to be a particularly productive year.<\/p>\n<p>Dmochowski was born in Poland and works as a barrister and professor of law in Paris, but has devoted much of his time to promoting the work of Polish artist <em>Zdzis\u0142aw Beksi\u0144ski <\/em>(1929-2005) with a gallery at rue Quincampoix in the centre of Paris from 1989-95. Work from the Dmochowski collection is now on show as the Beksinski Museum in Cz\u0119stochowa, Poland, and the gallery is now an on-line one, showing mainly paintings.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier shows of photography on the Dmochowski gallery have included the surreal recreations of dreams by<em> Misha Gordin<\/em>, who I was pleased to spend some time with on my <a href=\"http:\/\/buildingsoflondon.co.uk\/polishdiary\/2007\/bielsko.htm\" target=\"_blank\">last visit to Bialsko-Biala<\/a> where we were both guests of the FotoArt Festival organised by Inez Baturo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/buildingsoflondon.co.uk\/Library\/20071021-d0411cr.jpg\" title=\"\u00a9 2007 Peter Marshall\" alt=\"\u00a9 2007 Peter Marshall\" width=\"450\" height=\"531\" \/><em><br \/>\nInez and Misha on stage at the FotoArt Festival in Bielsko-Biala, 2007<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Other photographic shows at Dmochowski have included the controversial &#8216;<em>To die so as to leave the hell&#8217;<\/em> with work by <em>James Nachtwey, Don McCullin, Sebasti\u00e3o Salgado, Raymond Depardon, Jo\u00ebl-Peter Witkin, Dieter Appelt and Elizabeth Prouvost<\/em> as well as of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dmochowskigallery.net\/galeria_obrazy.php?artist=34\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Beksi\u0144ski&#8217;s<\/em><\/a> own photographs, which include some powerful closely cropped heads using his family and friends as models.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/buildingsoflondon.co.uk\/Library\/050609_0101cr.jpg\" title=\"\u00a9 2005 Peter Marshall\" alt=\"\u00a9 2005 Peter Marshall\" width=\"450\" height=\"305\" \/><em><br \/>\nInez and Andrzej Baturo at opening of FotoArtFestival in 2005<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Inez and her husband <em>Andrzej Baturo <\/em>are both photographers and run a gallery in Bielsko-Biala and publish photographic books. They are the co-founders of the <em>Foundation Centre of Photography<\/em> and the Programme and General Directors of the <em>FotoArtFestival <\/em>of international photography held in Bielsko-Biala.
