New York Times Lens<\/em> blog has a nice piece by Rena Silverman, No Longer an Invisible Photographer<\/a> about Vanessa Winship<\/em> and her current show at Madrid\u2019s Fundaci\u00f3n Mapfre<\/em>; even if you can’t get to Madrid you can take a ‘virtual tour<\/a>‘ on their web site from outside the gallery and go in and see the work on the walls. The audio is in Spanish, but the rest of the site is available in English,<\/a> and there are excellent images of around 25 of her pictures on-line.<\/p>\n

I’ve mentioned her work on this blog several times in the past, most recently in\u00a0Singing about Vanessa<\/a> and it really deserves the attention it is now eventually beginning to get even in the UK. She was the first woman to receive the Henri Cartier-Bresson award in 2011, and quite possibly the only photographer ever to make a project about Barton-on-Humber, the place she grew up in.<\/p>\n

Of course you can also see her work on her own web site<\/a>, and in the book she dances on Jackson,<\/a> made with the funding from the Cartier-Bresson award. This was a book I recommended when it came out (actually I think before it came out in the UK) at the time I ordered my copy. I note on Amazon it now says:<\/p>\n
