{"id":427,"date":"2008-10-23T13:32:27","date_gmt":"2008-10-23T13:32:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=427"},"modified":"2008-10-23T13:32:27","modified_gmt":"2008-10-23T13:32:27","slug":"guy-in-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=427","title":{"rendered":"Guy in Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not an early Nov 5th story, but a kind of follow-up to my recent post <a href=\"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/\/?p=418\" rel=\"bookmark\" title=\"Permanent Link: Police attack Photographers\">Police attack Photographers<\/a> where I mentioned that a photographer was attacked by a police dog.<\/p>\n<p>On photographer <em>Marc Vallee&#8217;<\/em>s blog, in the post <a href=\"http:\/\/marcvallee.wordpress.com\/2008\/10\/23\/guy-smallman-in-afghanistan\/\" class=\"title\" rel=\"bookmark\" title=\"Permanent Link: Guy Smallman in\u00a0Afghanistan.\">Guy Smallman in\u00a0Afghanistan<\/a>, you can read about another incident in which the same photographer was injured. I&#8217;m not quite sure why, but the words that Oscar Wilde put into Lady Bracknell&#8217;s mouth about losing parents came into my mind.\u00a0 Guy certainly has suffered misfortune, but I think it is more a matter of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guysmallman.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">working in dangerous places<\/a> rather than carelessness.\u00a0 And being rather cautious, as I tend to be (unkind people might call it timid) is seldom the best way to get good pictures. (You can see more of the Swiss incident in which he was injured on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ssi-media.com\/pigbrother\/GuyHasenjagd.htm\" target=\"_blank\">PigBrother<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere on <a href=\"http:\/\/marcvallee.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Marc&#8217;s blog<\/a> you can read a lot more about the problems that photographers have with police harassment. On Tuesday he was in the committee room when NUJ Gen Secretary was giving evidence to the Joint Committee on Human Rights  and he gives this link to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parliamentlive.tv\/Main\/VideoPlayer.aspx?meetingId=2620&amp;rel=ok\">long video<\/a> of some of the proceedings.
