{"id":3463,"date":"2014-01-08T10:54:06","date_gmt":"2014-01-08T10:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=3463"},"modified":"2014-01-08T10:54:06","modified_gmt":"2014-01-08T10:54:06","slug":"more-raw-files","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=3463","title":{"rendered":"More Raw Files"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Pete Brook<\/em> writing his <em>Raw File<\/em> blog for <em>Wired<\/em> magazine often comes up with some interesting work that&#8217;s new to me, and a couple of recent posts are worth a look.<\/p>\n<p>I like the long exposure night images of <em>Alnis Stakle<\/em> in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/rawfile\/2014\/01\/alnis-stakle-not-even-something\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ghostly Photos Reveal Subzero Shortcuts Through Post-Soviet Cities<\/a> (that&#8217;s almost an essay rather than a title), made with exposures of several minutes on film in a Hassleblad. The lengthy exposures lose much of the feeling of night but produce some strange effects (with the peculiarities of\u00a0Fuji Reala 100 and Kodak Ektar 100 doubtless adding their contribution.)<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also worth looking at<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alnisstakle.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Stakle&#8217;s own web site<\/a> and the other projects there, a reminder of the great interest and depth of photography in central and eastern Europe, perhaps rather more vital now than the west.\u00a0 I was reminded at times of the book &#8216;Lab East&#8217; whose<a href=\"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=1185\" target=\"_blank\"> launch I photographed at Paris Photo<\/a> in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Another recent post I enjoyed on Raw File was by German photographer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geschewuerfel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Gesche W\u00fcrfel<\/em>,<\/a> a set of images of the basements of apartment buildings in New York made while hunting for a flat there with her husband with another typically long title,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/rawfile\/2013\/12\/gesche-wuerfel\/\" target=\"_blank\">Photographer Finds Cockatiels, Jesus in NYC Basements<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 Among the other projects on her web site is a set of pictures by W\u00fcrfel taken around the London Olympic site, <em>Go for Gold!<\/em>, covering areas I&#8217;ve myself documented over 35 years, some work from which is on my <a href=\"http:\/\/river-lea.co.uk\/ \" target=\"_blank\">River Lea\/Lea Valley<\/a> site and in my book <a href=\"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=1718\" target=\"_blank\">Before the Olympics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/river-lea.co.uk\/2000s\/stratford\/050219_n452.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"298\" \/><br \/>\n<small>One of my pictures from Before the Olympics &#8211; on Waterden Rd, Hackney Wick in 2005<\/small><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pete Brook writing his Raw File blog for Wired magazine often comes up with some interesting work that&#8217;s new to me, and a couple of recent posts are worth a look.
