{"id":2865,"date":"2013-09-11T09:40:29","date_gmt":"2013-09-11T09:40:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=2865"},"modified":"2013-09-10T13:42:49","modified_gmt":"2013-09-10T13:42:49","slug":"getty-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=2865","title":{"rendered":"Getty Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m not a fan of <em>Getty Images<\/em>, but their grants certainly do support some great photography, as you can see from the winners of the <a href=\"http:\/\/imagery.gettyimages.com\/getty_images_grants\/recipients.aspx?date=9-2013&amp;grant=editorial\" target=\"_blank\">2013 grants<\/a> for editorial photography.\u00a0 Some of the five winners are very familiar names &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eugenerichards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eugene Richands<\/a>, for many years a member of <em>Magnum<\/em> (he joined Magnum in 1978 and left twice, in\u00a01994 and 2006), of <em>VII<\/em> from 2006-8 and Getty&#8217;s own <em>Reportage<\/em> from 2010-12.\u00a0 and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomasvanhoutryve.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tomas van Houtryve<\/a> of <em>VII<\/em>. I wrote here a while ago about his<a href=\"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=1436Borderline and Blurb\" target=\"_blank\"> book Laos: Open Secret<\/a>, published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blurb.com\/bookstore\/detail\/2247700\" target=\"_blank\">on Blurb<\/a>, and earlier about his use of Flattr &#8211; and earlier still about his photography on another site.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/samuelajames.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Samuel James<\/a>, whose earlier project <a href=\"http:\/\/www.viiphoto.com\/showstory.php?nID=1290\" target=\"_blank\">Lagos, Area Boys<\/a> won the\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/viiphoto.com\/exposure.html\" target=\"_blank\">2010 Alexandra Boulat Award for Photojournalism<\/a>\u00a0 also has a VII connection -as part of that award the project as sydicated by them. More recently he was featured on the<a href=\"http:\/\/lens.blogs.nytimes.com\/2013\/02\/13\/money-for-the-taking-in-niger-delta-swamps\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Lens blog<\/a> and picked as one of<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bjp-online.com\/british-journal-of-photography\/feature\/2233754\/ones-to-watch-samuel-james\" target=\"_blank\"> BJP&#8217;s 20 photographers<\/a> to watch in 2013.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.matteichphoto.com\/sin-salvation-in-baptist-town\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Eich<\/a> has also previously won many awards and\u00a0grants from the the Aaron Siskind Foundation, The National Press Photographer&#8217;s Association, ShootQ\/Pictage, The Alexia Foundation, and\u00a0<i>National Geographic Magazine<\/i>.
