{"id":240,"date":"2008-03-19T16:28:42","date_gmt":"2008-03-19T16:28:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=240"},"modified":"2008-03-19T16:28:42","modified_gmt":"2008-03-19T16:28:42","slug":"st-patrick-comes-to-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=240","title":{"rendered":"St Patrick comes to London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2008\/03\/17\/20080317-d0182.jpg\" title=\"St Patrick outside Shell HQ\" alt=\"St Patrick outside Shell HQ\" height=\"600\" width=\"402\" \/><\/p>\n<p>St Patrick came to London, bringing with him a rather large pipeline, which his friends from environmental and social justice movement <strong>Gluaiseacht<\/strong> tried to take into the Shell HQ near Waterloo.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2008\/03\/17\/20080317-d0071.jpg\" title=\"Pipeline at Shell HQ\" alt=\"Pipeline at Shell HQ\" height=\"301\" width=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shell have the major share in the <em>Corrib Gas Project<\/em> in Mayo, Ireland, given away at a bargain price by the Irish government, and the associated high pressure pipeline and refinery will pollute the local countryside.  Around half the Irish protesters were from Mayo, and they brought the pipeline to Shell&#8217;s HQ to remind them, in the words of one of the many songs sung during the protest,  &#8216;Shell Sells Suicide&#8217;, that &#8220;they forgot about the will of the people, and the people of Mayo say &#8220;No, no, no, no, no, no, no&#8230; &#8221; There was music and dancing too, and despite a chill wind around those drearily Soviet-style blocks of the Waterloo steppes it felt good, as you can I think see from<a href=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2008\/03\/mar.htm#mayo\" target=\"_blank\"> the pictures<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brent St Patrick&#8217;s Day Parade <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Another St Patrick, slightly older, was at Willesden Green for the Brent St Patrick&#8217;s Day Parade later in the day, and you can see his picture on <a href=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2008\/03\/mar.htm#brent\" target=\"_blank\">My London Diary<\/a> along with others from the event.
