{"id":1522,"date":"2012-01-19T10:33:02","date_gmt":"2012-01-19T10:33:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=1522"},"modified":"2012-01-19T10:33:02","modified_gmt":"2012-01-19T10:33:02","slug":"nurses-get-militant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=1522","title":{"rendered":"Nurses Get Militant?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of this morning&#8217;s news headlines was that the Royal College of Nursing, the professional body that represents qualified nurses, along with the Royal College of Midwives, have finally joined all the other professional healthcare organisations representing doctors, physiotherapists etc and come out against the government&#8217;s <em>Health Care Bill<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Two days ago, I was photographing an event opposite the Houses of Parliament against another controversial government bill which the House of Lords were to be debating later that afternoon, the <em>Welfare Reform Bill,<\/em> which will remove funding and support from many of the disabled and least well off, adversely affecting, among others, many with terminal cancer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2012\/01\/17\/20120117-d0036.jpg\" title=\"\u00a9 2012, Peter Marshall\" alt=\"\u00a9 2012, Peter Marshall\" height=\"299\" width=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t a large protest, but had representatives of single mothers, disabled activists and others including the Rev Paul Nicolson, chairman of the<em> <a href=\"http:\/\/z2k.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zacchaeus 2000 Trust<\/a><\/em>, a London-based charity which addresses poverty issues caused by unfairness in the law, legal and benefits system, which had organised the event together with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allwomencount.net\/ewc%20moms\/smsdindex.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Single Mothers Self-Defence<\/em><\/a> and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.winvisible.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">WinVisible,<\/a> <\/em>a grassroots group for\u00a0women with visible as well as invisible disabilities.
