{"id":15152,"date":"2023-08-14T09:14:11","date_gmt":"2023-08-14T08:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=15152"},"modified":"2023-08-07T09:59:50","modified_gmt":"2023-08-07T08:59:50","slug":"river-thames-battersea-riverside-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=15152","title":{"rendered":"River Thames &#8211; Battersea Riverside 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>River Thames &#8211; Battersea Riverside<\/strong>: Tuesday 14th August 2012 was a nice day with blue sky and some interesting clouds in the sky and I had an hour or two to spare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2012\/08\/14\/20120814-d0001.jpg\" alt=\"River Thames - Battersea Riverside\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I took a walk from Battersea Bridge to Wandsworth along the Thames Path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2012\/08\/14\/20120814-d0010.jpg\" alt=\"River Thames - Battersea Riverside\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Battersea Bridge crosses the river to Chelsea and I photographed the views over the river towards Lots Road Power Station and Chelsea Harbour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2012\/08\/14\/20120814-d0093.jpg\" alt=\"River Thames - Battersea Riverside\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a stretch of the river I&#8217;ve walked quite a few times over the years. It&#8217;s an easy journey for me to get there but it is also one of the more interesting and varied to walk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2012\/08\/14\/20120814-d0094.jpg\" alt=\"River Thames - Battersea Riverside\" width=\"450\" height=\"299\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I first walked this way in the 1970s this was an industrial area, with factories and wharves and limited access to the river. Now the Thames Path takes you along the riverside with just some short diversions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2012\/08\/14\/20120814-d0119.jpg\" alt=\"River Thames - Battersea Riverside\" width=\"450\" height=\"299\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the riverside is now lined with blocks of expensive flats rather than the flour mills, oil depots and a power station at Fulham I photographed back then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/petermarshall\/51434379465\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51434379465_40e0bafabf_z.jpg\" alt=\"Silver Belle Flour, mill, Battersea, from Chelsea Harbour, Sands End, Hammersmith &amp; Fulham, 1991, 91-4c-66\" width=\"640\" height=\"429\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Silver Belle Flour, mill, Battersea, 1991<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are still a few traces of that industrial past, though some were being demolished on both sides of the river back in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2012\/08\/14\/20120814-d0056.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Demolition at Fulham Wharf<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sand and gravel works immediated upstream from Wandsworth Bridge was still there and still working when I last visited the area a few months ago, although I expect before long it will also be another luxury block of flats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2012\/08\/14\/20120814-d0174.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"296\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think the best images I made that day before catching a train at Wandsworth Town were probably some panoramic images I&#8217;ve not included in this post as they don&#8217;t fit well in its format.
