So far I&#8217;ve photographed three Christmas events on the south-west fringes of London (and am wondering whether I can fit another in this evening.)<\/p>\n<p>They switched  the Christmas lights on in <a href=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2007\/11\/nov.htm#malden\" target=\"_blank\">New Malden<\/a> on 23 Nov, and it was <a href=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2007\/11\/nov.htm#wimbledon\" target=\"_blank\">Winter Wonderland<\/a> in Wimbledon last Thursday. Friday night it was pouring with rain, but the <a href=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2007\/11\/nov.htm#hampton\" target=\"_blank\">Hampton Hill Christmas Parade<\/a> went ahead as usual &#8211; if rather wetter.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t much like working in the dark or in the rain, and struggling with an umbrella and a recalcitrant camera and flash made me wish I&#8217;d stayed in the pub.  But all the performers in the parade were out there, mostly getting soaked, so I felt I ought to stick at it too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2007\/11\/30\/20071130-d0044.jpg\" height=\"302\" width=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s one that I rather liked, and may get on my Christmas card.<\/p>\n<p><em>Peter Marshall<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Christmas comes early in Surrey and doubtless everywhere else.
