{"id":11699,"date":"2020-12-29T09:01:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-29T09:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=11699"},"modified":"2020-12-27T12:22:38","modified_gmt":"2020-12-27T12:22:38","slug":"lea-valley-1993-around-tottenham-hale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=11699","title":{"rendered":"Lea Valley 1993 &#8211; Around Tottenham Hale"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/petermarshall\/50652680603\/in\/album-72157717057109897\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50652680603_89e9d2d33d_z.jpg\" alt=\"Stonebridge Lock, Northumberland Park, 1983 37c-22_2400\" width=\"640\" height=\"429\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Continuing my pictures from walks along the River Lea and Lea Navigation in 1983 which are in my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/petermarshall\/albums\/72157717057109897\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Flickr album River Lea &#8211; Lea Navigation 1981-1992<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tottenham Hale station on the Victoria Line was a convenient starting point for walks both north and south along the Lea navigatiion, which is crossed by Ferry Lane around 200 metres from the station. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stonebridge Lock is around 3\/4 miles north up the path from Ferry Lane, where steps lead down to the towpath immediately after you cross Pymmes Brook. The view above is looking south back towards Tottenham Hale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/petermarshall\/50652683973\/in\/album-72157717057109897\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50652683973_cfbfd9bc62_z.jpg\" alt=\"Lea Navigation, Tottenham, 1983 34l-51_2400\" width=\"640\" height=\"430\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thames Water Sludge Mains Bridge No 3 crosses the Navigation closer to Ferry Lane, and as well as a crudely painted landscape also carried racist graffiti from the National Party, a splinter group of the National Front which was active from 1976-83.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/petermarshall\/50652683803\/in\/album-72157717057109897\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50652683803_16e1fc2a8a_z.jpg\" alt=\"Ferry Lane, Tottenham, 1983 34l-64_2400\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lone tree behind a gate somewhere on Ferry Lane (or its eastern continuation, Forest Road.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/petermarshall\/50656318811\/in\/album-72157717057109897\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50656318811_7612cdd28a_z.jpg\" alt=\"Flood Channel, Leyton, Waltham Forest, 1982 32d-46_2400\" width=\"640\" height=\"430\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lee Flood Relief Channel at Forest Rd. There are now tall recently built blocks of flats replacing the inustrial units and garage in this picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/petermarshall\/50656409997\/in\/album-72157717057109897\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50656409997_14d295dfbd_z.jpg\" alt=\"Ferry Lane Wharf, Tottenham Hale, Hackney, 1982 32d-56_2400\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This extensive range of warehouses fronting the navigation immediately south of Ferry Lane has now been demolished and replaced by housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/petermarshall\/50656410007\/in\/album-72157717057109897\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50656410007_8128eebb64_z.jpg\" alt=\"Ferry Lane Wharf, Tottenham Hale, Hackney, 1982 32d-55_2400\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a channel here from the River Lee Diversion which takes excess water from the river and navigation north of Enfield, though usually most of the flow in this rejoins the navigation around half a mile further south. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr wp-block-embed-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/petermarshall\/50656318761\/in\/album-72157717057109897\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/50656318761_b0c35e2993_z.jpg\" alt=\"Ferry Lane Wharf, Tottenham Hale, Hackney, 1982 32d-53_2400\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pattern of waterways it the Lea Valley is difficult to understand and as well as the diversion there are also various flood channels, as well of course as tributaries such as the Pymmes Brook and Dagenham Brook.
