{"id":10649,"date":"2020-03-31T09:12:00","date_gmt":"2020-03-31T09:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=10649"},"modified":"2020-03-28T17:19:24","modified_gmt":"2020-03-28T17:19:24","slug":"on-the-third-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=10649","title":{"rendered":"On the Third Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2019\/10\/09\/20191009-d0690.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rather tense stand-off between police and Extinction Rebellion protesters who were still blocking much of Westminster continued, with the police at times adopting rather rougher tactics, including the deliberate destruction of tents and other property as well as making arrests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2019\/10\/09\/20191009-d0658.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">XR&#8217;s protest continued to be rather remarkable, with street performers, music and mimes including Charlie X as well as XR&#8217;s red and green robed troupes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2019\/10\/09\/20191009-d0808.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People were still determined to continue their protest and it was clear that the police were coming under increasing political pressure to end them, though quite a few officers seemed rather unhappy at what they were being ordered to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2019\/10\/09\/20191009-d0515.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prime Minister Boris Johnson had attacked the protesters, insulting them as &#8216;crusties&#8217; but was still failing to take any action. XR&#8217;s demands remain, calling for  the government tell the truth about the climate and ecological emergency, act to halt biodiversity loss, reduced emissions to net zero and create and be led by a Citizens Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2019\/10\/09\/20191009-d0396.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There were many arrests during the day, with XR&#8217;s non-violent approach being maintained, and police succeeded in clearing some of the areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/mylondondiary.co.uk\/2019\/10\/oct.htm#xr3\" target=\"_blank\">Extinction Rebellion Day 3<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:10px;text-align:center\">All photographs on this and my other sites, unless otherwise stated, are taken by and copyright of Peter Marshall, and are available for reproduction or can be bought as prints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:10px\" class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">There are no adverts on this site and it receives no sponsorship, and I like to keep it that way.
