{"id":10450,"date":"2020-01-31T09:04:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-31T09:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=10450"},"modified":"2020-01-30T11:09:20","modified_gmt":"2020-01-30T11:09:20","slug":"shahidul-alam-the-tide-will-turn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/re-photo.co.uk\/?p=10450","title":{"rendered":"Shahidul Alam: The Tide Will Turn"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I&#8217;ve written on several occasions about <a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/5475494\/shahidul-alam-bangladesh-journalist-person-of-the-year-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Shahidul Alam (opens in a new tab)\">Shahidul Alam<\/a>, a Bangladeshi photographer, activist, teacher and entrepreneur and his gallery, news agency <a href=\"http:\/\/drik.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Drik  (opens in a new tab)\">Drik <\/a>and photojournalism school <a href=\"http:\/\/pathshala.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Pathshala (opens in a new tab)\">Pathshala<\/a>, in Dhaka dedicated to allowing the majority world to tell its own story, something he has done so well through his own photography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the stories I&#8217;ve mentioned here is the saga of his arrest and imprisonment in August 2018, when as he writes &#8220;I did not know if I was going to live or die. &#8221; Though badly beaten by police, he survived and after 101 days in jail was released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new book, <a href=\"https:\/\/steidl.de\/Books\/The-Tide-Will-Turn-1224303445.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Shahidul Alam: The Tide Will Turn<\/a>, is now published by Steidl: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p> &#8220;Combining Alam\u2019s photos and texts with those of collaborators, including artwork by Sofia Karim and fellow inmates, <em>The Tide Will Turn<\/em> documents his experiences, the global support for his release and the ongoing fight for democracy in Bangladesh.
